Philosophy

I believe the purpose of a university education is to provide citizens with the critical thinking skills they need to question everything about the world around them, figure out what’s wrong, and try to make it better. Providing those skills is my ultimate goal as a teacher. I initially thought that simply ‘exposing’ the students to what they should know would somehow do the trick. As I’ve evolved as a teacher, I’ve come to realize that you must prepare a learning environment in the first place, create an engaged and safe place to both talk and listen, before a student can really digest the information and skills that we want students to acquire.
